Rats. That project had been really exciting, and had been a treasure trove for my students who wanted to incorporate old newspapers as primary sources for their papers. I wonder if there were copyright issues involved in this, as Google doesn’t exactly have a history of carefully requesting permission before they digitized.

Copyright issues are screwing up many digitization projects. One of the reasons I’m now totally against the existence of Intellectual Property rights: they turn information flows into information gridlock, which hurts the humanities and many other fields.
